Siobhan Clarke

Siobhan Clarke had previously worked as a cleaner in Motherwell College among a team of 30 other women and one man. She had a secret however; she wanted to work in construction and took note of what was happening at the college.

She found out about North Lanarkshire Councils Second Chance Programme and applied to get on it through Routes to Work; she took the plunge and got an interview for one of our courses at the college. She was breaking a norm.

As Siobhan said at interview “I’m interested in this course as it will give me some knowledge of working in construction and give me an opportunity to find out what I’m better at, so I know what type of apprenticeship to focus on.”

After a successful interview she soon made her mark on lecturers and took the opportunity of a placement with a local company to convince them of her worth, they soon offered her a job.

The company maintain properties for a number of letting agents where she has been getting experience of a number of trades and is proving her worth as a veritable all-rounder.
